![]() SCOTTSBLUFF — Friends of the Midwest Theater have received two grants for upgrading their marquee reader board to an electronic message system. Oregon Trail Community Foundation has granted them $10,000 over two years and the theater received $10,000 from the Scottsbluff Downtown Revitalization 2011 Grant. According to Executive Director, Willa Kosman, “The Midwest Theater is now so much more than just a movie house.” We have multiple functions or events going on almost every week. A new sign will be a tremendous help with marketing and a safer means of changing the marquee. Presently, a volunteer or staff member has to climb a ladder to get on the marquee to change the message. There are several historic theaters in the country that have installed electronic message centers on their marquees. The Nebraska State Historical Society has approved the message system. The message system would be retro-fitted within the historic metal framework presently on the marquee. All of the neon letters and stripes would remain in their original condition. The reader board presently in use is not the original 1946 reader board. We will fill in each side of the message center to give an original look and fit within the original metal frame box. The reader board above the doors, facing west, will remain in its original historic condition, and this reader board still uses the historic cast iron letters. Installation of the New LED Sign took place last week. Read more by Citizen Staff |
