KEARNEY — The University of Nebraska Kearney is the final stop for competitive high school speakers. The best of the best from all across Nebraska meet in Kearney for that final performance.

For seniors this marks the end of their high school competitive speaking careers. For underclassmen, the state tournament provides motivation to keep moving forward and always work toward improvement.

The Gering High School speech team brought home medals for multiple events. Gering’s Oral Interpretation of Drama (OID) team, made up of Colin Chatterton, Amy Christensen, Miranda Doremus- Reznor, Darrin Gonzales, and Samuel Eastman, were named Class B champions. Their selection from the Greek play, Medea, dominated the OID field this season, seeing them place at multiple tournaments.

In addition, OID teammates Amy Christensen and Miranda Doremus-Reznor were double medalists, with Christensen placing second in persuasive speaking, and Doremus-Reznor placing sixth in Poetry.

Victoria Welfring placed sixth in serious prose.

Gering Citizen congratulates the medal winners and all area speakers on the completion of a successful season.
