![]() Teresa Scanlan of Gering plays the piano in preliminary talent competition at Miss America Pageant Gering’s own Miss Nebraska Teresa Scanlan was named Thursday night’s preliminary talent winner for her piano performance of “White Water Chopped Sticks” during the third night of competition at the 2011 Miss America Pageant presented by DSW at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The pageant is scheduled to air Saturday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. MST on ABC and at 8 p.m MST on KDUH channel 004-00 for Dish Network customers. Scanlan will receive a $2,000 scholarship for winning the talent competition. Also in the spotlight was Miss Oklahoma Emoly West, who was the preliminary Lifestyle and Fitness winner in a black Swim ‘n Sport swimsuit. West will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Scanlan, the daughter of Dr. Mark and Janie Scanlan of Gering, was crowned Miss Nebraska in North Platte in June 2010, becoming the youngest pageant contestant ever to receive the state’s top title. At 17 years old, she is the youngest contestant competing for the Miss America crown.
