Patrons of last year’s Oregon Trail Days art show visit with one of the artists about his work.
For the past 30 years, the Oregon Trail Days Art Show has been a gathering place for area artists to display their works for the public. And the public has been very supportive.
The accompanying art sale has also been profitable for artists as people returning to Gering for Oregon Trail Days will often pick up a picture that reminds them of home.
Show coordinator Vera Dulaney said this year will feature 25 artists from around the region, working in oil, acrylic, watercolor and pottery. Four artists are new to the show.
“We’ll have some special things for our 30th anniversary,” Dulaney said. “There will be drawings for gift certificates. Anyone who spends at least $300, they’ll get a 10 percent credit on opening night.”
The popular artist’s quick draw is scheduled again on Thursday evening during the reception with at least four artists involved.
The Oregon Trail Days Art Show opens with an invitation-only artists’ reception on Thursday from 5:30 – 7 p.m. in the Gering Civic Center. For information, call the Oregon Trail Days office at (308) 436-445. From 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday the show opens to the public.
The show continues at the Gering Civic Center on Friday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
One of the artists that Dulaney pointed out was Alan Wilwand from Harrison. “He was with us when we had our very first show 30 years ago,” she said. “He usually doesn’t show with us now, but this will be a sentimental return for him. He does a lot of pen and ink sketches and some watercolor.”
Returning artists include Brandon Bailey from Scottsbluff; Kevin Burkey from Scottsbluff; Tim Collins from Laramie, Wyo.; Don Conn from Loveland, Colo.; Kathleen Cox from Gering; Carroll Danbom from Red Oak, Iowa; Michelle Denton from Mitchell; Marilyn Frisbie from McDonald, Kan.; Jerry Green from Custer, S.D.; Don Gryzbowski from Colorado Springs, Colo.; Clarice Hynes from Crawford; Mary Hunt from Gering; Becky Johnson from Green Mountain Falls, Colo.; Yelena Khanevskaya of Scottsbluff; Julie Nighswonger from Torrington, Wyo.; Gretchen Peters from Gering; Barbara Schaffner from Wheatland, Wyo.; Kathy Sigle from Spearfish, S.D.; Dustin Stephenson from Ten Sleep, Wyo.; Marvie Tipsword from Torrington, Wyo. and Alan Wilwand from Harrison.
