![]() Welcome to Gering so please slow down, stay awhile and enjoy the Western Nebraska hospitality that is so abundant here. Whether you are visiting friends and family or traveling on vacation, you have chosen a fantastic time to be here on the Oregon Trail! The Oregon Trail Days Celebration is the oldest annual celebration in Nebraska, enjoying 91 years. Whether you are here for the celebration or here enjoying the scenic and historic venue, finding the memory of a lifetime should be easy to do for you and your entire family during your stay here. For those who are more athletic, you can enjoy the Don Child’s Memorial Five Mile Run that starts downtown, a Bicycle Hill Climb at Scotts Bluff National Monument or Mud Volleyball at Five Rocks Amphitheater. For the young, or young at heart, the always popular carnival will be at Five Rocks Amphitheater this year. There will also be a Kiddies Parade, followed by games designed especially for them, which includes the always favorite Marshmallow Spitting Contest. Naming a few of the family fun things to see and do downtown, there will be music, street dances, fun, food, art shows, a Rod and Custom Car show, and a Quilt Show. Did I mention fun and food? The main event concert will show case the Casey Donahew Band at Five Rocks Amphitheater. There will be live bands playing throughout the community as well. While here you have the opportunity to be part of history as Gering Public Schools will be hosting an open house and dedicating the new Lincoln Elementary School. It is the first LEED designed school in the State of Nebraska. A few of the events of the Oregon Trail Days Celebration help Gering commemorate its Quasquicentennial. At 125 years, Gering is one of the oldest communities in Western Nebraska. If you are not sure what is happening while in town, do not hesitate to ask any of our friendly merchants. They will be more than willing to point you in the direction of the best time you’ll have anywhere. So again, welcome to Gering. Enjoy our Western Nebraska hospitality as you enjoy Oregon Trail Days.
