| Ardis M. Hughbanks June 24, 1921 – May 25, 2011 Ardis M. Hughbanks, 89 of Gering, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Heritage Estates in Gering. A memorial service will be held on Saturday evening, June 25, 2011 at 5 p.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 14 East 20th Street in Scottsbluff with Fr. Kelsey Hogue officiating. There will be no visitation. Interment was at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Memorials can be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church or the Banner County Historical Society. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Arrangements are being handled by Gering Memorial Chapel. Ardis was born on June 24, 1921 in Banner County to Luther and Ethel (Waters) Booker. She grew up in Banner County, where she attended grade school and later graduated from Bushnell High School in 1938. She married Elmer “Bill” Hughbanks Oct. 25, 1940. They lived in Harrisburg. Upon his death in 1968, Ardis moved to Gering, where she first worked for Justin Haynes Appraisal Company and then the Juvenile Probation Office until her retirement in 1986. Ardis was a member of St. Francis, a past Grand Chief of Nebraska of the Pythian Sisters, a 50- year member of the Pythian Sisters of Harrisburg and a Life Member of the Banner County Historical Society. Ardis is survived by her son: Rod of Chicago; two grandchildren: Stacey of Indianapolis and David of Chicago; and two great-grandsons: Zachary and Thomas. She was preceded in death by her son: David in 1966; her husband: Bill in 1968; as well as her sisters: Margaret Rohrer and Merna Stuckert; and her brother: Melvern Booker. | |
