| Robert Datel December 23, 1932 - July 6, 2011 Robert “Bob” Datel, 78, of Mitchell, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Regional West Medical Center after battling ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. His memorial service was July 13 at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with Pastor Rick Reisig officiating. At his request, cremation has taken place at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff and there will be no visitation. A memorial in Bob’s honor has been established in care of the family to be designated at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.jones-mortuary.com. Jones Mortuary in Mitchell is in charge of arrangements. He married the love of his life Ann Barton in 1953 and they began their life with a honeymoon to Vegas in his favorite car, a 1949 Mercury convertible. Two children were born to this union: Bobbi Ann Datel and Douglas Barton Datel. He graduated from the University of Wyoming receiving a degree in accounting. He worked for various companies; Lockwood’s and Hiram Scott College before starting his own business. He also ran an antique auction. After being semi retired, he found working at Home Depot to be the most rewarding; it was Bob's toy box. He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. “Now that I am no longer with you in person, you can always count on me to be with you in spirit. There is nothing in life as dear as one's family and I have been blessed with a great one. Although it has not always been the best of times, those few bad times were far outweighed by the good ones. Do not be sad for I have left you for a far better place but rejoice for the time we were together. I hope that you all find what you want in life even though you may not know what it is at this time, but keep seeking and you will find. For those that are not family thank you for your friendship. I have been blessed with many friends over the years for which I am very thankful. Bob.” He is survived by his wife: Ann Datel of Mitchell; daughter: Bobbi (Brad) Vonholt of Minatare; son: Doug Datel of Mitchell; grandchildren: Joseph Datel, James (Darci) Datel of Gering, Ben Howell of Mitchell, Sara Howell of Scottsbluff, Noelle Vonholt of Mitchell; great-grandchildren: Reese Datel and Dillinger Datel; sister in law: Jennifer Meisner; nephews and niece; Dana (Lana) Meisner, Eric (Stacey) Meisner, and Heather Leigh; plus great nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all. Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Lloyd and Hilda Datel, in laws: Bob and Marjorie Barton; and grandson: James. | |
