| Yvonne L. Johnston January 10, 1924 - September 3, 2011 Yvonne L. Johnston, 87, of Gering, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3 2011 at Regional West Medical Center. A memorial service honoring Yvonne was held Sept. 7 at Gering Memorial Chapel with Father Kelsey Houge officiating. Memorials are to be made to the donor's choice in Yvonne's name Tributes of sympathy maybe left at www.geringchapel.com. Yvonne was born Jan. 10, 1924 in Chadron, Neb. to Ted and Augusta Leary. She graduated in 1942 from Custer High School in Custer, S.D. and later that year graduated from the South Dakota Beauty Academy in Sioux Falls, S.D. On Aug. 6, 1942 she married Don Johnston in Sioux Falls. The cou¬ple made their home in Bayard and Gering areas. Yvonne owned and operated Yvonne's Beauty Shop in Bayard. She also worked at the beauty shop at Northfield Villa and the Gering Beauty Salon. She was a people person and enjoyed her trips to Prairie Winds Casino and Deadwood. She was the hostess on the Deadwood bus for several years. She was part of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Bayard and a member of the Episcopal Church in Gering and Scottsbluff. She is survived by her loving husband: Don; sister-in-law: Virginia Leseberg; nieces: Pat Eicke and Connie Smyer; nephews: Edward Leary and Paul (Maryann) Leseberg. Preceding Yvonne in death are her parents, and brother, Donald Leary. | |
