Russell T. Nelson

January 31, 1927 – November 10, 2009

Russell T. Nelson, 82 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009 at Regional West Medical Center with his family at his side.

Funeral services were Nov. 13 at Monument Bible Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Jake Roberts officiating. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery with military honors by the Nebraska Army National Guard.

Russell was born on Jan. 31, 1927 to Emett and Rosa Nelson. He graduated from Taylor, Neb.

He served the U.S. Army from 1945-1948. He was united in marriage to Midgie Amos on Oct. 2, 1948 in Comstock.

He worked as an over the road truck driver for Pappas Trucking, then was a mechanic for NTC and Al Rental until his retirement.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Scottsbluff Men’s Bowling Association. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, watching his grandchildren playing sports and sitting in his favorite chair on the porch.

Survivors include his children: Sue (Lee) Hall, Deb (Jim) Payne, Laurie (Doug) Hauser, all of Gering, Jackie (Tim) Lordino of Chadron and Shelly Hoagland of Gering; daughter-in-law: Carolyn Nelson of Minatare; brothers: Jim and Leonard Nelson; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; son: Gerald; parents; two brothers and three sisters.
