Circle S Lodge seized by First Tier Banks

Gering’s Circle S Lodge has experienced serious financial problems this past summer and their bank took over the motel last week.

After a sudden change in ownership, the Circle S Lodge in Gering remains open but under under new management and ownership.

Ownership of the motel was assumed by First Tier Banks in Colorado from its previous owners, Barry Price and Patty Langlois. Former staff member Heather Ormond was then contacted and asked if she would like to manage the property.

“It was hard on Barry to turn over ownership of the motel, but with all the businesses he runs in Colorado, something had to give,” Ormond said. “He was a great employer, so I was happy to take over.”

The bank is trying to find a buyer for the motel, but until then, it is still in operation. Ormond said they currently have 34 units, offering high speed Internet and free cable television. The new owners are also making additional improvements such as new furniture.

It remains unknown whether First Tier Banks properly assumed deed to the property as some creditors connected to the motel were not notified before the change of ownership took place.

One of the previous owners said they never signed any documents connected with the Circle S Motel transfer of ownership, even though First Tier Banks had asked them to sign a deed in lieu. The owner said they agreed to sign the document but added that First Tier Banks never presented them with the document to sign.

Jared Haberman director of Panhandle Area Development District said they are hopeful Circle S will stay open and contributing to the local economy. PADD is one of the creditors.
