Second Request for Supermarket Proposals announced

During a special session on Jan. 19, the Gering City Council rejected two proposals for a supermarket.
The meeting lasted less than 10 minutes. City Administrator Lane Danielzuk told council members one proposal left out pertinent information requested by the city. The other was received almost two hours past the deadline for submittals.
Since Sun Mart closed its doors in Gering in 2005, city leaders have been actively searching for a replacement.
The council voted to extend a second Request for Proposals for redevelopment of the property. Proposals need to be received by Feb. 17 or hand delivered to the city clerk by 4 p.m. on Feb. 18.
Danielzuk said a special meeting will be called on or before March 1 to consider the new proposals.
