Gering based InterTECH, a company that provides customer support for cable television subscribers, is expanding into additional space.
The company recently purchased the former juvenile detention center for $61,000 when Scotts Bluff County sold the building at auction Jan 26.
Bill Bauer, InterTECH president and CEO, said the company has been in its present location since 1997. Although the new building is only slightly larger than the current facility, the company will be able to add more employees.
“The new building will be used primarily for more call center space,” Bauer said. “We’re just out of space in our current location.”
InterTECH offers customer support for cable television subscribers from around the country. “When your cable modem doesn’t work, you have to call someone to help,” he said. “We’re that help. We support about 350 communities nationwide.”
The company started taking support calls in 1998. Since then, they’ve moved into computer service, computer network service, computer communications and network management.
While the work is somewhat specialized, Bauer said it’s been a good business to be in.
“This is a good area here,” he said. “We’ve been able to find the technical people and the people to train here in the local market.”
InterTECH currently employs 10 customer support representatives. They plan to hire an additional five or 10 employees to work in the new building.
“We have a lot of call center activities we’re working in,” Bauer said. “Right now, it’s mainly customer support. But a well-trained technical staff gives us the ability to move into a lot of different areas.”
Bauer said it would be a few months before he starts renovating the building.
