    January 15, 1944 - March 20, 2011
    services directed by Dugan Kramer
Evelyn Kay McConkey, 67 of Gering, passed away on March 20, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.
Her funeral service was March 24 at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ron Nuss-Warren officiating. A graveside service was at the Antelope Valley Cemetery in Oshkosh. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com. The family would like everyone to know that all memorials received will be put toward a monument for their mother and wife.
Evelyn was born Jan. 15, 1944 in Lewellen, Neb. to Richard and Lucille (Schirmer) McNally.
She was raised in Lewellen and graduated from Lewellen Rural High School.
On April 18, 1969 she married William F. McConkey (Bill) in Lewellen and to this union three children was born.
In November of 1991 she lost her son to an accidental death, so in 2003 when her niece Patricia McNally lost both her parents she moved to Gering and her Aunt Kay took her in like she was one of her own daughters.
She worked as the bookkeeper at McConkey Brothers Repair for many years and also as a bookkeeper at Alco for 11 years. She spent a lot of time with her genealogy as that was a favorite hobby of hers. She liked spending time with her family and her great grandkids. She managed to find the strength and courage to get through the good and bad times that cancer brings.
She always had a smile and never let anyone know if she was feeling bad. She grew to love the girls at chemo, they made it seem like she was just there to visit not there for chemo.
She is survived by her husband: Bill McConkey; daughters: Rhona Kae Blake and Lisa Ann Brown; grandchildren: Crystal (Beau) Thelander, Leah Seymour, Emma (Corey) McNees and Zzyzx Brown; great-grandchildren: Dirk Carson, Richard Elliott and Emey Evelyn Elaine Elliott; and mother-in-law: Clara May McConkey
She was preceded in death by her son: William Todd McConkey , her parents: Richard and Lucille McNally; her brother: Richard F. McNally; her sister: Martha Ann McNally; and father-in-law: Norman Carson McConkey.
