| Randy Gene Griess May 12, 1951 – March 16, 2012 Randy Gene Griess, 60, of Scottsbluff, passed away, Friday, March 16, 2012, in his home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 31 at Zion Evangelical Church on 5th Ave. in Scottsbluff. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force. The will be a lunch after the service at the church for whoever would like to join. Memorial donations may be made to the family or the American Cancer Society. Randy was born May 12, 1951, in Scottsbluff to Victor and Aldine Griess. He went to Scottsbluff High School, but later moved to Denver, Colo., where he graduated. He worked at the county highway department in Denver from 1968 to 1971. He joined the United States Air Force in 1971. He married Joyce Marie Hyde in 1973.He also worked at the sugar factory for many campaigns. He worked many other jobs throughout his life. He worked at the Kimball Post Office as a city carrier for 12 years, starting in 1981. His last job was at Coca Cola before he was diagnosed with cancer 11 years ago. He has three children and seven grandchildren. He was waiting for May to come so he could see his grandson Dylan Michael Sanford who was due on his birthday. One of the things in his life that made him happy was spending time with his grandchildren. His mother moved to Scottsbluff nine years ago from Denver, Colo. They moved into the R.C. Scott Apartments next door to each other, where he took care of her until she died two years ago. He loved going hunting and fishing, and taking his wife and the kids camping with his father. His father and kids also watched the baseball games together while he would cook steaks on the grill in the summer. He is survived by his wife: Joyce Griess, which they have been separated for almost nine years; his son: Sam Griess of Hill City, Kan.; two daughters: Melissa (Jason) Holyoke of Scottsbluff and Mary (Paul, Jr.) Sanford of Scottsbluff; and seven grandchildren: Cyrus, Zanacia, Drayden, Orion Griess, Jasmine Mann, Savannah Sanford, and unborn, Dylan Michael Sanford due in May. He also is survived by his brothers: Steven (Patty) Griess of Scottsbluff, Allen (Cheryl) Griess of Milford, Neb., Terry (Karen) Greiss of Fort Worth, Texas; and his sister: Susie (Joe) Johnson of South Carolina. He also had many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his father and his mother. | |
