| Evelyn Louise Betz August 13, 1924 – April 7, 2012 Evelyn Louise Betz went to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 7, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Louise’s wish was to be cremated. Her memorial service will be held on Friday, April 13 at 10 a.m., at the Gering Zion Church located at 1100 O Street in Gering. Inurnment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Tributes of sympathy can be left at www.geringchapel.com. Memorials can be made to the family to be designated at a later time. Louise was born Aug. 13, 1924, in Alliance, Neb. to Ward and Ruth (Donovan) Joder. She married Edward Betz on Feb. 7, 1942, and to this union eight children were born. They were married 42 years at the time of his death. Louise worked for Montgomery Ward and the telephone company for many years. She was co-owner of Memory Lane Gift shop. After that time, she and her husband purchased Janz Crafts and operated that business for many years. She was CEO and bookkeeper for Betz Corporation until the business was sold. Louise was an excellent seamstress, sewing for family and friends, and she loved nothing more than cooking for and hosting special occasions. Louise loved to do decorative painting, arts and craft projects, flower gardening and decorating her home. She was a member of several card clubs throughout her life, particularly pinochle. She was active in DOES and Red Hat Society. In earlier days, she taught Sunday school, Bible study, and helped with many of her children’s activities. She and her husband were members of square dancing groups and helped supervise her children’s traveling square dance club and softball trips. She loved boating and fishing, and spent many summers at Lake McConaughy with her husband. She liked to travel, spend time wintering in Arizona, and frequently attended her grandchildren’s sporting events, often going long distances to cheer them on. In her retirement, Louise was a foster grandparent in the Scottsbluff and Gering schools. One of her greatest enjoyments was having her many students call her “Granny,” thus the endearment name “Granny” became her name to all who knew and loved her, including her children. She was truly a lovely lady and will be greatly missed by everyone she knew. Within the last year, she resided at the Village at Regional West where she made new friends, and so appreciated the wonderful staff and various activities. She loved showing everyone her decorated apartment and enjoyed the Holiday and Event “dress up” parties. She had a love for fun and enjoyed her excursions to Deadwood, S.D. Survivors include son, Robert Betz (Rene) of Scottsbluff and grandsons RD Betz and Troy Medina; daughters, Judy (Larry) Lindquist of Hazen, N.D., and grandsons Todd (Jean), Troy (Melissa) and Tony (Edward Brooks) Lindquist; Bonnie Ziemann of Lincoln, Neb. and granddaughter Ronda (Ted) Roth; Janice Cortinas (John) of Mitchell and granddaughters Nikki Avila, Amy (Nahum) Winder, Becky Avila and grandson Daniel Cortinas; Shelly (Jerald) Meisner of Gering and granddaughters Jamie and Stacie Meisner; Lori (Dick) Littell of Gering and grandsons Michael Littell and Jason Hiegel, and granddaughters Annie Lewis, Abby (Austin) Morris and Emily Hiegel; Daughter-in-law Nina Betz of Gering and granddaughter Lisa Betz; brothers Tom Joder (Janice) of Gering and Joe Joder (Dorothy) of Calif; sister-in-law Beth Joder of Colo. Louise was also blessed with 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were husband Edward, son Donovan, infant daughter Carol, parents Ward and Ruth Joder, sister Marjorie Olson, and brother Russell Joder. Our Granny requested that this quote by Helen Steiner Rice follow her obituary. “The end of the road is but a bend in the road.” I believe that is true of life and death. At the end of God’s world there is his endless world beyond.” | |
