| Melvin Kanzler December 3, 1931 – April 23, 2012 Melvin Kanzler, 80, of Scottsbluff, died Monday, April 23, 2012 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services were April 30 at First Baptist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Gary Cole officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery with military honors by the U. S. Marine Corps. A memorial has been established to First Baptist Church. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com. Melvin was born Dec, 3, 1931 at Scottsbluff to John and Mary (Schott) Kanzler. Melvin received his education from Victory Hill School and received his GED. He entered the Marine Corps Jan. 16, 1952 and was honorably discharged Jan. 15, 1954. He married Betty Lane June 3, 1956 at First Baptist Church and made their home in Scottsbluff. Melvin custom farmed for many years before beginning his employment with Jirdon Agri-Chem in 1989. He retired in 2004. Melvin was a member of the First Baptist Church, Scotts Bluff Lodge #201 AF & AM, Panhandle Shrine and Eastern Star. Melvin enjoyed spending time with his family. He spent much time in the coffee shop with his farmer pals. He would attend Job’s Daughters functions with his girls to give others a hard time He would tell silly jokes and made everyone laugh. Mostly he loved his wife, and recently told her how much he appreciated her. He is survived by his wife: Betty; children: MariAnn, Dale, Lori (Rick) Hullinger, Gale (Jon) Ridgeway, and Jennifer (Barry) Mattern; grandchildren: Michael (Amanda) Kanzler, Chris (Vanessa) Kanzler, Amanda Hullinger, Heather Kanzler, Elizabeth Hullinger, Erin Hullinger, Maxwell Powell, Nicole Hullinger, Alex Powell, Mason Powell, Sydny Ridgeway, Bryce Eckman, and Spencer Ridgeway; great-grandchildren: Austin Kanzler, and Aubrianna Sturgeon; sisters: June Ring, Dorthy Kobobel, Donna Johnson, and Loretta (Donald) Schmall; and numerous nieces, nephews , cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Johnny and Harold; and sisters: Betty, Lilly, Betty and Ester. | |
