| Jack R. Fox August 22, 1927 – May 17, 2012 Jack R. Fox, 84, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff. His funeral was May 21 at the Federated Church in Mitchell with Rev. Dr. Charles Richardson officiating. Interment followed at the Mitchell City Cemetery. The Jones Mortuary of Mitchell is assisting the family. Jack was born Aug. 22, 1927 in Sunflower, Neb. to Harold and Dorothy (Russell) Fox. He attended Sunflower High School. Jack joined the United States Navy at age 17 and after boot camp he was stationed in the Philippines for the invasion of Japan. After WWII, he joined the Submarines for the Korean War. Jack was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1953. He married Beverlee Lu Wallace on Aug. 14, 1954 in Scottsbluff. Jack attended Chadron State College on a football scholarship. He received a Bachelor’s from Chadron and spent several years of his life teaching students in Nebraska, Colorado, and Nevada. He also worked at the Scottsbluff Post Office and was a Union Steward for the local postal union. Upon his retirement, Jack drove semi trucks across the country for several years. Jack had a servant’s heart. He dedicated many hours of his time to his community through his membership on the Mitchell School Board, Mitchell City Council, the Federated Church, the American Legion, VFW, and Sub Base. He was also a Boy Scouts of America Counselor and was recognized for his assistance in organizing County Government Day. Jack enjoyed baseball, football, traveling, fishing, and spending time with his family and special dog, Dutchess. Survivors include his son: Kelly (Connie) Fox of Vancouver, Wash.; daughters: Kimberlee Farmer of Waco, Texas and Kari (Jorge Chavez) of Thornton, Colo.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a fifth and sixth due this summer; brother: Gordon Fox of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and sister: Lois White of Leitchfield, Ky. Preceding Jack in death were his parents; wife: Beverlee, in 2010; brother: Bob Fox; sister-in-law: Katherine Fox; and brother-in-law: Chuck White. | |
