| Benjamin Benzel April 6, 1924 – June 14, 2012 Benjamin Benzel, 88, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Memorial services were June 19 at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park. A private family inurnment service will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established to Salem Congregational Church. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com. Ben was born April 6, 1924 in Scottsbluff to Henry and Eva Catherine (Niederhaus) Benzel. He received his education in the Scottsbluff area. He married Loretta Mary Chlopek June 22, 1946 in Scottsbluff. Ben farmed for over 30 years, worked for Magnolia, and was a carpenter, mechanic and butcher. He was a lifetime member of Salem Congregational Church. Ben loved Jesus and his church family. He enjoyed helping his son Bill farm and spending time with his family. Ben is survived by his sons: Benjamin (Karen) Benzel of The Villages, Fla. and William L Benzel of Lyman; daughter: Debra Strauch of Mitchell; grandchildren: Randy (Melea) Benzel of Castle Rock, Colo., Renee (Brian) Bernhard of Commerce City, Colo., Russell Benzel of Firestone, Colo., Hunter (Beverly) Strauch of Scottsbluff, Megan Hanshew of San Diego, Calif. and Heidi Strauch of Mitchell; great-grandchildren: Kendal, Cameron and Courtney Benzel, all of Castle Rock, Colo., Simon and Nina Bernhard of Commerce City, Colo. and Riley and Emily Strauch of Scottsbluff; brother: Sam Benzel of McAllen, Texas; and sisters: Clara Schmick of Chandler, Ariz., Elsie Pratt of Portland, Ore. and Violet (Orie “Buck”) Lewis of Scottsbluff. His wife: Loretta; five sisters: Mary Robertus, Pauline Kembel, Mildred Rein, Wilma Lissman, Nadine Carpen; and son-in-law: Douglas Strauch preceded Ben in death. | |
