    William “Bill” Rein, 83, of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at home with his family by his side. Memorial services were July 16 at Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Garry Schick officiating. Inurnment was in Fairview Cemetery. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory.

    Bill was born April 8, 1929 at Scottsbluff to Fred and Elizabeth (Henry) Rein. He attended school in Scottsbluff and also attended college taking courses on business law for two years when time permitted.
    Bill married Mildred Benzel Oct. 10, 1948 at Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff. They were married 53 years until her death in April of 2001. From this marriage, two children were born: William Steven and Peggy Joan, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
    Bill was a member of Zion Church for more than 54 years, which at that time he was instrumental in the building of the new church in 1971. He was a church board member serving more than 30 years in various offices, serving most of that time as church president.
    Bill also served on the County Planning and Zoning Commission for 20 years and drove school bus for the Minatare School District for several years.
    Bill farmed in Scottsbluff which he enjoyed and in 1959 earned a silver table setting for raising the most beet tonnage in the Scottsbluff District. He also worked for the Scottsbluff Sugar Company along with his farming as an agriculturist for 20 years.
    Upon his retirement he and his wife moved to Sun City, Ariz. after his wife’s passing to be with her Lord, Bill moved to Surprise, Ariz. until returning to Scottsbluff in 2011.
    Survivors include his daughter: Peggy Joan; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Violet Rein; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Mildred; sister: Marie Yekel; brothers: George, Harold, Jake and Edward; son: Brig. General William Steven Rein; and sister-in-law: Roberta Rein.
