Mitchell boys, girls sweep Bayard

The Bayard boys and girls basketball teams hosted Mitchell on Saturday, January 22; Mitchell claimed both games..

On the girls’ side, Chalsey Grentz led Mitchell to a 44 – 39 win, scoring 11 points along the way. Whitney Marquez led Bayard with 16 points.

Also for Mitchell, Havannah Newens and Andee Grentz scored nine, Nicole Houston put up eight, Milissa Alvizar scored four, Kaykie Haun scored two, and Liz Cunningham added one point.

For Bayard, Kayla Vera and Megan Stuart put up seven points each, Ainsley Ridgeway scored three, Kaylyn Long put up two, and Audrey Fries and Ashlee Willey each had two points.

With the win, Mitchell moved to 4-10, and Bayard fell to 3-11 on the season.

For the boys, Randy Shields and Alberto Alvizar led Mitchell to a 66 – 55 victory over Bayard. Shields had 20 points while Alvizar had 19.

Spencer Jobman had 17 points in Bayard’s losing effort.

Also scoring for Mitchell were Hunter Dittbenner with ten points, Edgar Rodriquez with nine, Taylor James with six, and Richie Burke with two.

For Bayard, Nate Rice had 13 points, Brandon Stuart had 10 points, Alex Coon and Mikah Schmall had four points each, Ashton Rose had three points, and Jacob Fenning added two.

With the win, Mitchell improved to 11-2, while Bayard fell to 6-7/
