GERING — In District C2-12 action at Gering High School, Dundy County-Stratton ended Bayard’s season with a 78-43 win Tuesday night in semifinal action at Gering High School.

In the other semifinal, Perkins County, the No. 4 seed, surprised top-seeded Hemingford 66-58. Perkins County had advanced from Monday’s play-in game with a 60-35 victory over No. 5 seed Morrill (4-16).

Bayard (7-14) got a game-high 17 ponits from senior Brandon Stuart and 13 from senior Kody Krantz, both of whom nailed three 3-pointers each for the Tigers.

But No. 2 seed Dundy County-Stratton prevailed thanks to 16 points from junior Joseph Rettele and 15 from junior Tyler Freeland. DC-S built a 15-11 lead after one quarter and led 35-23 at halftime and 56-33 after three periods.

Because of their southwest Nebraska locations, Dundy County-Stratton and Perkins County likely will play Thursday’s sub-district championship at a closer site than Gering. One DC-S official mentioned Chase County at Imperial as a likely site since it is equidistant from the finalist schools.

ALLIANCE — No. 5 seed Mitchell entered Sub-district C1-12 play as the underdog but could not capitalize in its first-round game Monday night against Chadron at Alliance High School.

The Cardinals ended the Tigers’ season at 8-14 with a 61-47 victory. However, Chadron’s campaign ended Tuesday night in a 45-43 loss to top-seeded Kimball.

Gordon-Rushville won the other semifinal over Bridgeport, 53-47. Kimball and Gordon-Rushville, the finalists in the Western Trails Conference Tournament on Feb. 4, will play Thursday for the sub-district title.

Boys’ Class C district championship games will be Feb. 27 and Class D title games will be Feb. 28.
